Baby Checklist

Expecting your first baby is the most exciting time of your life. Yes, there are a ton of baby items to get in order to be ready for your new arrival. We are going to break down the essentials you will need to get and what stuff is popular but not necessarily a must have. Our aim is to make this preparation time as stress free for you.

Baby Essentials

  • Car Seat
  • Pram/Stroller
  • Baby Carrier
  • Crib or moses basket + 2-4 fitted sheets
  • Cot + 2-4 fitted sheets
  • Changing unit / dresser or mat
  • Play mat
  • Highchair
  • Monitor
  • Baby bath + hooded towel
  • Bottles, bottle brush and sterilizer
  • If breast feeding: breast pump, milk storage bags, nursing bra and breast pads
  • Baby changing bag
  • First aid kit, thermometer, hair brush and nail clippers
  • 2-4 Cellular blankets
  • Six sleepsuits/ long sleeved suits
  • Six vests/ short sleeved suits
  • Two cardigans/ jackets
  • Shawl or snow suit
  • Hat, mittens and bootees
  • Lots of bibs

Consider the time of year that you are due e.g. winter or summer. You may need rain covers/sun covers, footmuffs or sun parasols.

Not essential but nice to have:

  • Bouncer
  • Rocking chair / glider
  • Nursing pillow
  • Bottle warmer
  • Soothers
  • Cot mobile
  • Sleeping bags
  • Nightlight

Hospital bag checklist:

For You:

  • Loose fitting nightdress or an old long t-shirt
  • Disposable underwear
  • Warm socks, slippers and a light dressing gown
  • Hair bobbins and brush
  • Wash bag with toiletries – shower gel, sponge, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant and so on
  • Maternity sanitary pads
  • Large, dark-coloured towel
  • Fresh night clothes to wear after the birth, (ideally front opening for breastfeeding) and a nursing bra
  • List of phone numbers of family and friends
  • Camera
  • Mobile phone & charger

For Baby:

  • Babygro’s or sleep suits
  • Nappies
  • Vests
  • Cardigan
  • Cotton wool
  • Bath towel
  • Baby hats and bibs
  • Outfit for going home
